Needs to include what I’ve been doing for the last 5 years which is working in houston. I was a receptionist for a lawyer, then a manager for multiple businesses, and lastly I became a material manager for an oil and gas company. Why have I been working, because my parents split and moved when I was 18 and left me with my great grandmother in new jersey. Moved to houston at 18 and got my first job as a receptionist thinking being a doctor was impossible so I kept working. Last year my mom moved to houston and while repairing our relationship, she let me move in with her to lower my expenses and it was then that I was layed off along with the 3000 other employees due to the drop in the oil and gas market. At that moment I thought everything happened for a reason and with no job and no real expenses anymore i felt it was the perfect time to do what I knew that I loved which was the medical field. within the last year i involved myself in clinics and hospitals finding ways to shadow doctors and professors such as Dr. Carbajal and Dr. Frommer to in a way immerse myself as much as i could in what i always knew i loved. And the first time I realized that was way before my turmoil at 18. It was when my great uncle passed away of cancer. watching him go through phases and feeling helpless none the less i was only 11. Getting to experience a 98 year old woman going home healthy after being intubated and a 27 year old boy with HIV that just didnt want to take medication, my reasons became even stronger. The need to understand more on how things effect the human body and what i can do to help.
