In this week’s reading (attached) you have been learning about the ways in which organizations utilize social media to expand and sustain their strategies. The Lovejoy & Saxton article, Information, Community, and Action: How Nonprofit Organizations Use Social Media, the authors discuss three main strategic categories in which they coded organizations’ tweets: information, dialogue, and promotion.
These three strategies are not all encompassing, and the strategies of your particular organization might not use all three, or might expand upon other strategies we learned about in our readings, but do help us glean particular categorizations that are useful for social change messaging.
* Thinking about National Community Reinvestment Coalition organization, provide a minimum of one examples of the messaging strategies that are being used for each of the categories: information, dialogue, and promotion
* Discuss what do you think is the end result of those strategies (what are they hoping to achieve)?
You will note that the authors argue that there is a mix, or combination, of these efforts based on the organization’s Tweets.
* Consider all social media used by the organization (website included) and discuss the ways that the categories are combined, and what you believe the rationale for their combination might be.
* Example: Does one message include information and promotion- what is the purpose? Does the org’s videos include dialogue and information, what do you think these two categories support one another?
