ENGLAND: Title that follows the country should be bold, short, and captivating. Should not include name of country because that is already provided. Should contain a subject and a verb and make the reader want to read the intelligence brief. Country is presented in all caps and bold; title is presented bold but in upper/lower case.
Summary: No more than two sentences, preferably a single sentence, which conveys the main point of the brief. The summary, written after the development and analysis sections, should contain information from both the development and the analysis sections identifying the implication or consequence of the development.
Development: A few sentences that explain the situation with a little background, if necessary. Be sure to include key details or interesting points that you will address in your analysis. Analysis should not be included in this section – should focus on the current development of the issue, event, activity, etc. This would be the area for including the who, what, where, and when journalistic information.
Analysis: Think critically about the issue/development that you are reporting on and analyze the information presented in your development. Why is it important? Who might be concerned about this development? Place the issue/development within the context of your country and think about why this might be important. Review each sentence in the development section and ask “so what?” The answer should provide you with the ability to make a judgment of whether this development is important and if so what are the implications (results of this activity) for the country of origin and, if any, the implications for the U.S. [First Name Last Name] Place your name at the end of the brief in brackets.
Sources: Include sources researched – minimum of three resources should be reviewed for information prior to writing the intelligence brief; strive to use a variety of sources. Use APA format
