“Hi Professor and class,
My idea of a new product is a “break through” in maternity clothing. Having gone through 2 pregnancies myself, I know how difficult it is to find both comfortable and stylish pregnancy pants/jeans. Most styles are very traditional and dated, which makes it difficult for the mommy to be to be fashionable while comfortable. I have tried most pregnancy jeans/pants on the market, all from H&M, Gap, Seraphine, motherhood to more expensive options. None of them have made me feel comfortable and most will keep falling down, so you need to keep pulling your pants up again all the time, and it is not a flattering look! In addition, I have asked many of my friends who have gone through pregnancy, and most have the same thoughts as me.
My idea is to introduce a line of stylish maternity jeans and pants with a special feature that doesn’t exist in the current market: an added pregnancy belt that supports both the growing and shrinking bump (post-partum), which will ease the tension on the hips, pelvis as well as reducing ligament pain in a breathable soft organic cotton. This belt is attached to the jeans/pants and will also make sure they stay up all the time!
I am confident that this is a product that will create revenue in the future, this is because for years, I have realized that there is a gap in the market. There is no reason why women shouldn’t feel stylish when going through pregnancies. The target market won’t only be for women during their pregnancy, but also for the weeks following post-partum. And with the special feature of the built-in belly band, this will attract many women.
I believe the best way to make revenue is to first create awareness on the cause, and on the brand. Social media and the different online platforms, are great channels to help new (and existing) products build brand awareness.
A product idea that I’ve had in mind for a while is a pillow alarm. I feel that this product would be successful especially for a company such as Apple. There’s nothing more annoying than the sound of my phone’s alarm waking em up in the morning. I start my mornings off in a bad mood because of the alarm sound. Having a pillow that gently vibrates to a set time would be a much better way of waking up.
Many iPhone consumers sleep away from their phones, which makes it difficult to feel the vibrations if the sound is turned off. Diving into a new industry could be very beneficial for Apple. I believe this product would be successful. According to the e-text it states, “Identify a fast-growing need, and adapt your products to that need. Hewlett-Packard followed the need for “total information solutions” that led it to develop computing and communications products for the World Cup and other sporting events” (Crawford, 2021, 64). Solving a meaningful problem is how Apple can make a profitable return on such product. I wouldn’t necessarily call this product a ‘need’ but I would describe it as a ‘want.
