The use of technology not only enhances data collection and storage, but it also fastens service delivery
and boosts customer satisfaction. Physicians at the hospital would like to venture into the use of
Electronic Health Records (EHR) in their areas of practice because they believe that if they are able to
get an HER from the same hospital, they will be able to able to confidently write orders from their
practices for patients who are in the same hospital. They also trust that with the use of EHR, they will
have better access to crucial information regarding their patients which will help them monitor the
patients better. Another perceived benefit is that the physicians will be able to tap into other providers’
EHR systems when they are covering in the emergency department.
The use of HER systems in the hospital will certainly reduce medication errors and minimize on the time
it takes to get information regarding a patient’s condition and enhance service delivery to the patients.
The adoption of HER would lead to increased patient safety and better healthcare for all. One of the
disadvantages of the new system is that it is may be incompatible with the current CPOE system which
would force the hospital to buy a new pharmacy system.
